About
Libby Mclean is interested in the way her paintings come to reveal her own subconscious. Her painting practice explores notions of femininity, whimsy, mortality and transience. She takes visual cues from children’s illustration, female painters, low brow pin up art and pop culture.
Libby’s work is preoccupied with capturing a feeling of ecstatic liberation. Her paintings are conceived as rebellions against the darker sides of human experience. Often born from personal transcendent experiences, they reflect a desire to let go.
Libby is a graduate of the National Art School (Sydney, Australia). She currently splits her time between her studio in Melbourne and her work as an early childhood teacher.
